Sylvae Typographicae

This volume contains the papers of the conference held at NSZL on 16 April 2012 related to the publication of the 4^th volume of the Old Hungarian Prints series, a bibliography of another 15 years added to the three previous parts. The title Sylvae typographicae expresses the authors’ wish to present new and so far unexplored achievements related to the prints listed in the new volume and found during its edition. Due to the multiplicity of genres, some essays focus on the history of typography and methodology, while others call the attention to questions of history of literature and art. There is a separate section of the essays on old Czech-language biblical literature and a most recent project to explore Czech-language biblical verses printed in 17^th century Hungary. But the papers published are just a starting point for the exploration of that historical period on the basis of the 4^th volume of Old Hungarian Prints. For this reason, we have illustrated this book with the same tree that can be seen on the cover of the bibliography. Our hope is that the stock listed in Old Hungarian Prints shall be (to quote the Bible) „like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream, … its leaves are always green, … and never fails to bear fruit (Psalms 1:3 and Jeremiah 17:8).
