The Almanacs of the Budapest Journalists’ Association are invaluable sources of data for all the researchers interested in the writer and journalist circles of the Hungarian capital city in the early 20th century. The goal of the editors of this original issue was to set up a “document collection of the ideas” that “reflect like twin mirrors the warring movements of contemporary social and literary thought”.

The authors of the Around the Newest Literature chapter include Endre Ady, Ignotus, Aladár Schöpflin, Lajos Hatvany, Zsolt Beöthy, Ferenc Herczeg, Jenő Rákosi and Mihály Szabolcska, while in Around internationality there are essays of Oszkár Jászi, Zsigmond Kunfi, Ervin Szabó, Albert Berzeviczy, Károly Huszár and Ottokár Prohászka. These two units are the backbone of the Almanac, making it the most important yearbook among all those published between 1905 and 1917. This is our reason for starting our series with this volume, in spite of the correct chronological order.

The planned publication of the series is a joint project of National Széchényi Library and Argumentum Publishing House for researchers of the press, society and literary history of the early 20th century. However, the content can be interesting also for the wide learned audience.
