The Way of Don Quixote in Hungary – exhibition

Jean-Pierre Claris de FlorianOn the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Don Quixote, Part 2, Ernesto Sabato Library organized an exhibition entitled The Way of Don Quixote in Hungary, in cooperation with National Széchényi Library and the National Library of Foreign Literature and Music Collection. Over sixty items shown at the exhibition present the original Hungarian editions published from 19th century until present-day. Among the exhibited books, you will find, among others, the first, Jean Pierre Florian edition of Don Quixote; the three-volume book published in 1829 (in French) by Hartleben Publishing House; and the first Hungarian translation, by Ignác Karády, which had been published one month before the freedom fight and revolution of 1848 broke out.

The exhibition was ceremonially opened by His Excellency D. José Ángel López Jorrín, Ambassador of Spain to Hungary, on April 23, at 10.30 a.m. in the Glass Hall of Cervantes Institute, Budapest. The exhibition will be open until May 22, 2015.
