On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, National Széchényi Library was granted the award of Honor Cross by the local government of Józsefváros.
At the ceremony held on October 24, 2016, leaders of the local government handed over awards to institutions preserving the memory of the Hungarian Freedom Fight of 1956 and to heroes who fought in Józsefváros. Three onetime revolutionaries were granted Honorary Citizen title and the Honor Cross Award of Józsefváros was given to the institutions concerned.
In his welcome speech, Mayor Máté Kocsis emphasized that those who had the courage to lay down the basis of Hungary’s national sovereignty should never be forgotten. The award granted to National Széchényi Library was received by Director-General Dr. László Tüske.
