Recently, a delegation of the National Library of Turkey led by Director Zülfi Toman paid an official visit to our Library. Before their visit to Budapest, Director-General of National Széchényi Library László Tüske was guest of the Ankara-based institution in summer 2017. During that visit, a cooperation agreement was signed between the two libraries in order to facilitate professional cooperation.
In the course of their visit, members of the Turkish delegation got acquainted with the history of National Széchényi Library, and they could also have a look at Turkish manuscripts kept in our Library. Zülfi Toman proposed to expand the collection of NSZL with the support of the National Library of Turkey. Topics of the discussion included the issue of books and codices having disappeared from Hungary during the Ottoman occupation. We do hope that some of these items can be found in Turkish collections. In order to explore these documents, NSZL is planning to send a delegation to the Turkish institution.
