CENL-AGM

The National Széchényi Library (NSZL), as a member of several international professional organizations, maintains extensive international relations. It is member of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL), whose goal is reinforcing and emphasizing the role of national libraries in Europe, in particular preserving the national cultural heritage and making it accessible to all. Members of the CENL are directors generals of national libraries of the Member States of the Council of Europe. This network is formed of 46 national libraries in 45 European countries actually. NSZL participates at the AGM each year.
At the last Annual General Meeting (2022 CENL-AGM) held in Ankara from 19 to 21 of June NSZL was represented by Ms. Judit Gerencsér, Deputy Director General.
In this occasion National Library of Turkey was the host and the main organizer, the meeting session was opened by Frank Scholze, President of CENL and Director General of the German National Library/ Deutsche Nationalbibliothek.
During the three-day program, in addition to the annual reports of the general assembly the participants could listen to case studies about eg. the situation of Ukranian libraries, digitisation, preservation of cultural heritage and many other related topics. Barbara Lison, President of IFLA, among others spoke at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of national libraries and their prominent leading role in society and social responsibility.
As part of the cultural program, the participants visited the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, the Rahmi M. Koç Museum and the ancient city of Gordion in Yassıhüyük.
The assembly was an excellent opportunity to further strengthen international library professional relations.
