ARANY 200 – NSZL 215

The 215-year old Hungarian national library celebrates János Arany, born 200 years ago, related to the Library foundation festivities as well. A two-day Scientific Session, discount book sales, the finals of a nationwide reciting competition entitled Te aranyok Aranya! (You Gold (Arany) of Golds!) and a Family Day, featuring guided tours, museum education and handicraft workshops and games for families, will be offered to our visitors.

SCIENTIFIC SESSION
November 23–24, 2017
National Széchényi Library will hold its traditional scientific conference on November 23 and 24, 2017, related to the János Arany bicentenary and the 215th anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian national library. Invited plenary speakers of the 18th Scientific Session will be literary historians Péter Dávidházi, László Szörényi and Mihály Praznovszky, and historian Ambrus Miskolczy.
In addition their lectures, researchers and experts of National Széchényi Library will present their research results.

JOINT CONCERT OF KALÁKA ENSEMBLE AND PÉTER HUZELLA

November 23, 2017
At 7 p.m. on November 23, 2017, a joint festive concert of Kaláka Ensemble and Péter Huzella will start in National Széchényi Library. The event will celebrate Hungarian poet János Arany who was born 200 years ago. On several occasions during the János Arany Memorial Year, Kaláka Ensemble performed on stage together with Péter Huzella who, from 1975 onwards, was a member of the music group for 20 years. As part of the three-day festivities in NSZL, Kaláka and Péter Huzella will be heard singing poems by Arany together.

Te aranyok Aranya!  (You Gold (Arany) of Golds!)  – RECITING COMPETITION
November 25, 2017
Finals of the nationwide reciting competition will start at 9 a.m. on November 25, 2017, in the Ceremonial Hall of National Széchényi Library. A total of more than 200 Hungarian upper primary school and secondary school students have reached the seven regional finals of the competition. There will be two rounds at the finals to be held on November 25.

FAMILY DAY
November 25, 2017
Finals of János Arany Reciting Competition will be accompanied by a Family Day in NSZL, during which special guided tours the János Arany exhibition, entitled “Others get laurel only by leaves …” treasures, cult, impact history, will be held on several occasions. Throughout the day, our guests will be offered plays for families guided by museum educators, handicraft workshops and games guided by our restorers, and discount book sales.
