Blessed Vladimir Ghika – temporary exhibition

Blessed Vladimir Ghika, whose relic enriches the Missionary Cross of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress and who was beatified in 2013 by Pope Francis for his zealous faith and martyrdom, has been concerned with the poor, the sick and with those in need since his youth. Fewer people know, however, that in addition to his charity and missionary activities and his law and theology degrees, he also wrote poetry and plays, and had a talent for music and the visual arts. He converted to Catholicism in 1902 and was ordained a priest in 1923. He created the large part of his artistic oeuvre before his ordination and this included pen-and-ink drawings, etchings, book illustrations, bookplates, but he also made kirigami works (a variation of origami that uses folding and cutting to create artworks) for charitable purposes,

The exhibition, organised in collaboration with the International Eucharistic Congress, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest, the Romanian Cultural Institute of Budapest and the National Széchényi Library, presents a selection of these works. 

The exhibition's curator is Anna Mária Orbán. 

The exhibition will be open from 7 to 25 September 2021, from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, in the National Relic Exhibition Space of the National Library (Budapest, Buda Castle, F building).
